Ayurveda, The Science of Life

“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”

-Ayurvedic Prioverb

Ayurveda is a traditional, natural system of medicine practiced in India for more than 5000 years. The knowledge comes from several sacred Indian Sanskrit texts written between 1500BC and 400AD. Before the written texts, the knowledge was passed down orally. Ayurveda is thought to be one of the oldest forms of healing system providing an integrated approach for preventing and treating diseases through lifestyle choices and natural therapies.

Ayurveda considers the human body contains elements that can be found in the universe: Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. These elements are uniquely combined within everyone, creating a distinct and unique blueprint, also known as Dosha. According to Ayurveda, we create our state of health based on how we interact with our environment.

You are your own unique being with your own special mind-body constitution. By combining daily self-care, a healthy diet, movement and exercise, and a natural lifestyle that is tailored to your constitution, you can achieve your health and wellness goals. By making choices that support your inner nature, you can live a harmonious and balanced life.

While Ayurveda is universal, the treatment is highly personalized. Each client consultation follows the same guidelines, but the treatment plan is individualized and entirely customized for you, your body, and your lifestyle.

What an Ayurvedic Consultation looks like:

  1. You start with a 90-minute initial consultation. A medical history questionnaire, Ayurvedic dosha test, as well as tongue and pulse diagnosis will be done. This is an information-gathering session assessing all aspects of your health for a complete picture of your mind-body system.
  2. After your session, you will receive a personalized wellness plan with practices to focus on in the coming weeks. This usually includes diet, lifestyle guidance (yoga, pranayama) and *ayurvedic herbal prescription. *ayurvedic herbs are not included in the consultation and are available for purchase online
  3. Your follow-up session will be after 2 weeks or 1month, and usually once a month after that or as needed. The follow up session takes about 30 mins.
  4. As we work together, shifts and additions to your wellness plan and herbal protocol may be made. This might include anything from diet and lifestyle to yoga, pranayama, and spiritual counseling. You may also receive recommendations on a series of bodywork therapies to support your healing.
  5. You will feel empowered around your health and well-being. Understanding how your body and mind works, you will learn how to best support and nurture yourself holistically.
  6. In time, you will naturally learn to become your own best healer.
